With over 25 years’ experience within the lift industry, Ascension Lift Solutions is well placed to advise and train on all aspects of lift engineering. We provide comprehensive lift entrapment/lift release training with both onsite and after training support via our bespoke members page. Having worked in the lift industry for many years, Ascension Lift Solutions understands the pressures of everyday life and working in and around lifts, and the lift industry. Lift Release Training
Being trapped in a lift can be an uncomfortable experience, and extremely inconvenient. Complications can arise if the lift passenger release takes longer than anticipated. Especially, if the trapped passengers are:
- Anxious, claustrophobic or attending an appointment.
- Have Medical conditions that could impact them further by being trapped in the lift.
- Traffic conditions delaying the lift engineers attendance may present a H&S issue for the passenger trapped.
- The lift provider may not have a local engineer to attend what should be a straightforward procedure.
- The fire brigade is becoming more reluctant to attend lift entrapments and may charge to release passengers
Under LOLER, BS7255:2023 and BS EN13015 2001 +A1 2008 lift owner/operators have specific legal obligations. Namely, to ensure arrangements are in place to enable the safe release of trapped lift passengers.
Lift Maintenance Management And Surveys
Our lift maintenance management will look at all aspects of the lift, and we can liaise with the lift maintainer to ensure the lifts are compliant and reliable. We also provide lift surveys, lift audits, technical audits, which can assess items such as:

Firefighting And Fire Lift Surveys And Reporting
Regulations regarding lifts have recently been updated as part of the changes to the fire safety regulations. The recently published Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 will require ‘responsible persons’ to undertake monthly checks on lifts for use by firefighters and evacuation lifts. Together with the Buildings Safety Act, major changes are afoot with implications for building managers and owners. These new regulations came into force in January 2023.
The FSO and the Fire Safety Regulations highlight the importance for the responsible person’s fire risk assessment of identifying the type of lifts installed in their buildings. Over many years, British Standards have specified several types of lifts for use in the event of fire with older types not required to have levels of protection comparable with modern lifts. The identification of the specific type and checking the detailed features and operation of the lift is a specialist activity which should be undertaken only by competent lift personnel. This identification is likely to be an important element in classifying the type of lift as part of the buildings responsible person’s fire risk assessment.
